Glenn Vernon Wayman, born May 4, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, loving husband of 40 years to Susan Wayman (nee Boehmke), passed away on November 15, 2025. Together, they built a life and family they loved including their children John (Laura), Laura (Bill), Sarah (Kyle) and Ryan (Allison). He had 10 grandchildren, Anna, Ella, Leah, Luke, Emma, Shayla, Olivia, Adalyn, Charlie and Jackson Glenn, who he loved spending time with.
In addition to his family, Glenn filled his life with joy in so many ways. At his home in Crystal Lake, he enjoyed tending to his massive vegetable garden, fruit trees and impeccable lawn. He was an excellent handyman and could fix almost anything and loved to teach his children invaluable skills to fix, maintain and build so many things around the house. Glenn enjoyed golfing and hunting for many years and included his sons when they were older. He enjoyed going to Cubs and Bears games with his family.
Annual summer road trips all over the U.S. while the kids were growing up was a favorite summer time activity when the family wasn’t at the lakehouse. Favorite places included Charleston, South Carolina; the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee; and, the Black Hills in South Dakota. A proud Scout himself, he took great pride in bringing up his sons in scouting and supporting Pack 347 as the Committee Chairman for over two decades. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to always uphold the Cub Scout Motto, “Do Your Best,” in everything they did, but more importantly, he modeled it in everything he did. Glenn was also a member of the local Ducks Unlimited chapter for over twenty years, many of those of which he served as the Committee Chairman.
The lakehouse in Phillips, Wisconsin was a beautiful haven for Glenn and his family and became his favorite place to spend time; he couldn’t get up there enough. When the sun rose over Solberg Lake, “Wayman’s Point” would become alive with boats pulling his kids or grandkids tubing or skiing where he would watch at his perch at the end of the dock. There were kayaking excursions, fishing trips, sunset cruises, naps on the porch, picnic lunches, camp fires, snowmobiling, and so much more– all built with Susan by his side. The sunsets, however, were the best part of the day where you could find Glenn on the porch with a glass of wine in his right hand watching the festivities come to a close, the colors fade into night, and reflective conversation with anyone sitting near him. The best Wayman tradition that Glenn carried on from his parents (Howard and Eleanor) was being up north with the whole family for the 4th of July festivities, including the Price County Rodeo. His grandkids make this tradition grow into the 4th generation.
Glenn was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He spent nearly his entire career with Liebovich Steel and Aluminum out of Rockford, IL. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, including Shepherd of the Hills in McHenry for the past 27 years. Whether it was his family, faith, friends, work ethic or hobbies, he always did his very best.
Glenn is also survived by his brother Roger and brother-in-law Phillip. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard, and mother, Elinor.
