Gloria Jean (Klasky) Carney, 81, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on February 19, 2026.
Born on February 16, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, Gloria was the daughter of Ruth and Jacob Klasky, both of whom preceded her in death.
Gloria grew up in Chicago and later married the love of her life, James Carney. Together they raised four children in Schaumburg, Illinois, creating a home that was always warm, lively, and full of curiosity, kindness, and laughter. Her children especially remember how she and Jim tolerated, then gradually embraced, the ever‑changing lineup of pets that wandered into the Carney household. Over the years, the family home hosted a dog, two cats, a ferret, parakeets, lizards, guinea pigs, and even the occasional stray duckling.
After Jim’s passing, Gloria continued to anchor her family from her home in Huntley, Illinois. In time, her daughter Maureen rescued her from the harsh Chicagoland winters, and the two of them made their way to Florida. Gloria quickly settled into a life that suited her perfectly. She was happiest on her lanai in Fort Myers, sipping her morning coffee, soaking in the Florida warmth, or walking her spirited dog, Ruthie.
Gloria is survived by her children Michael (Jennifer) Carney, Michele (Jonathan) Siswick, Maureen Carney, and Megan (Julie) Carney. She was the proud grandmother of Austin Carney, Rebecca Carney, Emma Siswick, Jake Siswick, and Matthew Racila. She also welcomed her step-grandchildren: Miranda Anderson (Racila), Hailey Young (Linden), and Jack Linden, into the family with love.
She is also survived by her siblings Robert Klasky, Karen Wanatowicz, Kenneth Klasky, and Jackie Cimaglia, and was preceded in death by her sister Marlene Haflin.
A service to honor Gloria’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte 176), Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014. Inurnment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary, Cary, Illinois.
Gloria will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, her gentle heart, and the way she found joy in life’s simple moments. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply.
