Gloria Jean Wine, 82, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, with her husband by her side. She was born January 6, 1944, in Chicago to John H. and Ethel S. (Weyrauch) Braje.
On June 6, 1964, she married Jack W. Wine, and together they built a life centered around Christian family values and traditions.
Gloria was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma who loved with a fierce heart by many measures and dearly loved her three Old English Sheepdogs.
She had a wicked sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Gloria often joked that she was “never wrong”, and she always appreciated a good joke right back. She loved cooking, baking, puzzles, family board games, playing cards and bowling.
A lifelong sports fan, Gloria faithfully cheered for the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. She was also incredibly talented at sewing and made her own wedding dress along with many clothes for her family over the years. She enjoyed macramé and filled her home with plants and handmade touches. She was a Cubs Scout Den Mother and played hand bells for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She had a deep love for nature, evident by her interest in gardening, bird feeding and watching. She took great pride in her gardening demonstrating her testament to her patience and nurturing spirit.
Gloria and Jack met while roller skating, beginning a marriage that lasted more than 61 years. Over the years, she gave generously of her time through the various hospitals, Meals on Wheels, Head Start, Food Pantry and many other quiet acts of kindness that she never wanted recognition for. Her mantra was when you’re in the position to help someone, be happy and do it. That’s God answering someone’s prayers through you.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Jack; her children, Richard Wine, David Wine, Deborah (Jeffrey) Risner, and Kathryn (Jon) Eisenhut; her grandchildren, Ashley Brooke, Jacob, Caileigh, and Lee Wine, and Gabriel, Addison, and Elijah Risner; and her sister, Barbara Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Braje.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, from 3 PM until 7 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 10 AM until a service at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
