With heavy hearts and immense love, we announce the passing of Maria Guadalupe Bravo Muñoz—lovingly known to all as “Mami Lupe” and today known as Guadalupe Montejano Nicolei—on April 17, 2025, at the extraordinary age of 106.
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, on December 12, 1918, to Sixta Muñoz and Irjinio Bravo,Guadalupe was one of thirteen siblings: Sebastian, Marcial, Abraham, Juan, Jesus, Antonio, Manuel, Juana, Carmen, Sixta and two sisters named Maria.
At the age of 14, she moved to Mexico City (Distrito Federal), where she met her first love, Silvino Montejano, while working at a local store. Though their conversations were few, their connection was undeniable. They married in 1944 and were blessed with three children: Raúl Montejano Bravo, Sylvia Adriana Montejano Bravo, and Julian Montejano Bravo. Tragically, their love story was cut short when Silvino, a boxer, passed away in 1955.
In 1972, Guadalupe made a bold move to the United States, settling in Chicago. She later remarried and was also widowed by Joseph Nicolei. Guadalupe was the proud matriarch of a vast and loving family, spanning five generations: She is survived by her three beloved children and their spouses: Raúl Montejano Bravo (Carmen Arauz), Sylvia Adriana Montejano Bravo (Andres Castro), and Julian Montejano Bravo (Guadalupe Sanchez).
She is also remembered by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. Her legacy lives on through each of them, with names too numerous to list here, but all held dearly in her heart.
Mami Lupe was a seamstress by trade and a nurturer by nature. She created elegant wedding and celebration gowns, but more importantly, she stitched together the hearts of those she loved. Known for her bright clothing, warm compliments, and unwavering faith, she had a way of making every person feel seen and valued—always calling others “so handsome” or “so beautiful.”
She adored flowers, was deeply religious, and attended mass faithfully. Traveling the world well into her later years, she shared many adventures with her daughter Sylvia by her side—her “dynamic duo” partner. Even in her final years, she remained active and remarkably healthy, only slowing down due to arthritis.
Guadalupe’s love knew no borders. She cherished her family in both Mexico and the United States. Her presence brought light, pride, and warmth to everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and enduring love.
She will be missed dearly but remembered always, not only for the long life she lived but for the beautiful way she lived it.
