Gurtej Singh Grewal

Gurtej Singh Grewal, 20, of Algonquin, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2025.

He was born in Park Ridge, Il, to Jatinder Singh Grewal and Melissa Cline Acevedo. He graduated from Dundee-Crown High School in 2022.

Gurtej was thoughtful, kind, and always willing to help. He had a quiet way about him, but his heart spoke volumes. He cared deeply for the people around him and showed that love through simple, consistent acts, whether that meant helping out, checking in, or just being present.

He loved food and had a real passion for cooking. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, basketball, baseball, football—and he didn’t just watch them, he played with heart. He was also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, which he earned with discipline and determination.

Gurtej held a CDL and was a truck driver. He worked hard every day, never afraid to put in the effort or get his hands dirty.

More than anything, Gurtej loved spending time with his family and friends. He was loyal, caring, and full of quiet strength. If he loved you, you knew it.

He is survived by his parents, Melissa and Jorge Acevedo and Jatinger and Tania Grewal, and his siblings Dezarae, Arjun, Sebastian, Armaan, and Samar. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, from 3:00 p.m. until the service at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
