Harold "Sonny" Combs

Harold “Sonny” Combs, 90, of Lake in the Hills, passed away on March 21, 2023.  He was born in Wynne, Arkansas on May 3, 1932 to Joe and Rosa Combs.

After growing up on a farm and seeing the world as a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy, Sonny married Sally Harmon and spent the next 62 years in a loving and happy relationship. Sonny and Sally cherished their travels, seeing the country from coast to coast and sharing countless trips with siblings and friends.

Sonny worked at several automobile dealerships, prizing his connections with customers and coworkers. If a family came into his showroom, he made it a priority to be friendly and warm to each member.

Outgoing, endlessly friendly, proud, and loving to the end, Sonny was that rare individual to whom the phrase “one-of-a-kind” genuinely applied.

He is survived by his grandsons, Jeff Combs and Mark Combs; sister, Rhonda Cummings; and many nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; son, Mark Combs; siblings, Doug Combs, Peggy Matarazzo, and Jean McClean.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, from 10 am until a service at 12noon at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. He will be laid to rest next to Sally at Algonquin Cemetery.
