Henry J. Higgins

Henry James Higgins, 85, of Crystal Lake, passed away on September 11, 2025.

Born in Springfield, Illinois on July 5, 1940, to Harold J. and Emma B. (Gietl) Higgins, Henry lived a full and meaningful life. He graduated from Notre Dame and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army while stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. 

After the Army Henry and his family settled in Arlington Heights. His careers took him to providing graindryers to Illinois farmers, to managing oil refinery services in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Law Administation in Chicago.

Henry raised four boys in Arlington Heights, where he was the ultimate “boy dad.” From fishing trips in Canada to Pinewood Derby and Boy Scouts, as well as playing Santa Claus. He had a gentle and joyful spirit, a kind and nonconfrontational heart, and a creative, artistic soul.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Louise; his sons Joseph (Laura) Higgins, Michael (Caryn) Higgins, Christopher (Angela) Higgins, and Sean Higgins, along with their mother Kathryn Higgins; granddaughters Bridget, Josie, Ashley, and Megan; and his sister, Maryann Gilchrist.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, from 4pm until 8pm, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
