Holly Ann (Carvell) Wenig of Cary, Illinois passed away on September 3, 2024, after a short illness. Holly was a caring and loving wife to Don Wenig with whom she was about to celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary. She was a proud and devoted Mom to Rebecca Ann. Holly was born in Chicago to the late Anita and James Carvell.
Holly grew up in Cicero with her Mom, Dad, maternal Grandmother and her younger sister, Jamie. Her Grandmother taught her to play the piano as soon as she could reach the keys, and she enjoyed relaxing at the piano for her entire life. Her Grandmother also passed down to Holly a lifelong loyalty to the Chicago Cubs. Holly attended Morton East High School where she participated in several theater productions. She had an appreciation for the arts and allowed that creative side of her to shine. Holly recently taught herself the banjo and began sharing the sweet sounds of the Appalachian dulcimer.
Holly and Don were married in 1987 and have been living happily ever after in Cary since 1996. Holly was most proud of becoming a Mom to their daughter, Rebecca, who remained her highest priority even as she accepted her fate. She dedicated herself to giving Rebecca the best possible beginning and provided all the tools and inspiration she would need for her own life’s journey. She is immensely proud of how Rebecca’s story has turned out. Holly will also be fondly remembered by her stepdaughters, Lisa and Donna, who have been a special part of her life since they were little girls. Her sister, Jamie, will never forget the special bond they shared.
Holly tended to her flower and vegetable garden every year, but she was most satisfied if she could share the fruits of her labor with others. She also enjoyed photography and saw the beauty in the sunflowers in her own backyard or in the simplicity of a deserted lonely old red barn, a hobby which earned her a few McHenry County fair ribbons. Let us also not forget her “best in show” win for her garlic! Holly also kept her fingers and heart busy with crochet projects which she shared with family, new babies and grandchildren of friends and neighbors--and anyone who might need a good cuddle.
Holly’s professional ambitions were centered on procurement management positions, and she took pride in her work ethic. Her dedication to her lengthy career was another outlet for her creativity and served her well in achieving her professional goals. She was generous with her time and knowledge, just as she was in her personal life. Holly retired in 2023.
Holly is survived by her loving husband, Don, her devoted daughter Rebecca, and her caring stepdaughters, Lisa Wenig and Donna (Artis) Wilson (and their son, Bryan). She was a friend, confidant, and constant childhood companion to her sister Jamie Carvell (Terry Fisher).
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Cary Grove Food Pantry, 8901 Cary Algonquin Road, Cary IL 60013. Holly left this world much too early but also left it a much better place.
Visitation will be held from 11am until the funeral service at 3pm Sunday September 22, 2024 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta (Route 176) Crystal Lake.
