Hugh Henry Engelman, 89, of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born April 5, 1920, in Chicago, to Abram and Mabel Engelman (Armstrong). He married Virginia Dressler on February 16, 1946, in Chicago.

His working career began in 1940 as a salesman for Cardox Corporation and lasted through 1945. Then, from 1946 to 1953, he was a Regional Sales Manager for Kelvinator Appliances. For the next ten years, he was Motorola?s Marketing Manager for Small Appliances. Next, from 1963 to 1965, he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bell Sound, Inc. From 1966-1974 he worked for McCann-Erickson as their Advertising Senior Vice President. Finally, from 1975-1984 he was Vice President, Membership Director for Illinois Manufacturers Association. Instead of going into full retirement, for the following years, up until a few years ago, he worked at the Crystal Lake Public Library, in the Reference Department. He also spent many hours with volunteer work. In 1991, he was honored with the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award of McHenry County.

He is survived by his eight children; Richard Engelman of Mountaintop, Pa., Douglas Engelman of Aurora, Mary Kay Kenney of Germantown, Md., Bill Engelman of Lake Geneva, Wis, Jeanne Schehl of Barrington, Paul Engelman of Belvidere, Mia Engelman-Ross of Lake Villa, and Guy Engelman of Skokie; as well as twenty grandchildren: Melissa Horn, Christopher Kenney, Jonathon Kenney, Kristi Smolenak , Kevin Engelman, Kerri Engelman, Luke Montoya, Anna Montoya, Heather Adamo, Stuart Engelman, Allison Engelman, Nicholas Engelman, Jacob Engelman, Kelsey Engelman, Sara Engelman, Max Engelman, Tristan Ross, Sophie Ross, Elizabeth Engelman, and Margaret Engelman. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Engelman and his grandson Douglas Engelman, Jr.
