Irene A. Lomon, formerly of Palatine, passed away on June 22, 2023. She was living with her eldest daughter, Cheryl, for the last two years in Crystal Lake along with the help of her second eldest daughter, Bernice, who came to live with them the past six months to help care for mom. Prior to that she lived with her daughter, Carol Joyce Currie in Hoffman Estates.
Irene was born in Fort Jennings, Ohio on July 22, 1923 to David and Ada (Sherrick) Robinson. She attended the Columbus Ohio School of the deaf. After graduating, she was employed at a Honey Plant (Factory) in Lima, Ohio. She made many friends and memories there. A group of work friends took Irene with them on a trip to Colorado and to the Hoover Dam. Irene always spoke about that trip with very fond memories.
After the birth of her first child (Cheryl), Irene resided with her oldest sister, Lucille and her husband, Bill for 5 years in Lima, Ohio. During this time, Irene’s younger sister, Ethel (deaf sister), invited her to a deaf basketball convention in Cincinnati, where Irene met the love of her life! – Victor Lomon. They dated for some time and married on October 4, 1958. They then moved to Chicago, and then to Palatine, where they welcomed two more children, Bernice and Carol Joyce. Victor, sadly passed away in 2004 and Irene remained in this home until 2018.
Irene stayed at home until the girls were in school full time. Irene began work at a mold injection factory from 1968-1977. She then became a production inspector from 1978-1990 with Northrup Grumman. All of Irene’s bosses loved her and said she was an excellent employee. Irene loved all her jobs very much!
Irene was always busy. She joined a group of friends who got together every month to play “Rumifun” card game for many years. She enjoyed this time with her friends very much. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved working in the yard, planting flowers and taking care of them.
Irene and Victor had many travel adventures together. One of their best was to visit daughter, Bernice, in Alaska (Fairbanks) on an Alaskan cruise. They also cruised to Jamaica with many of their deaf friends.
