Irmgard (Emmy) Landolt, 98, of Deer Park, Illinois, passed away on September 15, 2023.
Emmy was born on September 1, 1925 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Fred Fiene, a building contractor, and his wife Frieda. She graduated from Marywood University in 1946, and worked in scientific research, co-authoring an article published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation in 1955 entitled "The Effect of ACTH and Pathological Increases in Adrenal Cortical Function on Urinary Alphaketolic Steroid Metabolites."
She was married in 1948 to Rudolph F. Landolt, who had a long and successful career at Kemper Insurance, ultimately as President and Chief Operating Officer. They were happily married until his death in 2007.
Emmy was pre-deceased by her sister Evelyn Boland and her brother Fred Fiene. She is survived by her adoring children Richard (Rick) Landolt of Lakeview, Oregon, Amy Landolt Eber (husband Louis) of Potomac, Maryland, and William (Rudi) Landolt (wife Cindy) of Barrington, Illinois, by her grandchildren Karl R. Eber, Alexandra Eber and Kara Landolt, and by her great-grandchildren, Uma Eber, Kai Eber, Jordan Allred and Cameron Allred.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will also be remembered as a woman of many talents and boundless energy, a skilled and accomplished refinisher of wooden furniture, seamstress, home chef and gardener, whose impressively wide-ranging knowledge was driven by intense intellectual curiosity. With her husband, she traveled extensively around the country and the world, and for many years they maintained homes in Barrington, Illinois, and Palm Desert, California.
In lieu of flowers, if you desire, give to your favorite charity in Emmy's name.
