Born in Santa Monica, California on August 3, 1934, Jacqueline Jean Johnson (née Faunce) of Crystal Lake, IL was the youngest of seven children, and the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie (née Jucker) Faunce. Jackie passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the age of 89.
It was in Westwood Village, California where she fell in love with the food service business, working at her brother-in-law Carl’s restaurant: The Chatam. She relished telling stories about the famous celebrities she served as a young waitress and always said, “Robert Wagner was the most handsome man I ever laid eyes on”
One weekend, Jackie went to her family’s Santa Monica church, Pilgrim Lutheran, to listen to a visiting men’s choir. It was there that she met Tom Johnson, who would later be ordained as Rev. Thomas Johnson. They moved to Moline, IL where Jackie would give birth to Paul and Lori. A few years later, they moved to the parsonage at Bethany Church in Lemont, Illinois where Jackie’s third child, Brad, was born.
The family moved to Wonder Lake, Il in 1965 and then in 1967 settled into their long-term home of Crystal Lake, IL.
Known for being an amazing cook and baker, Jackie won the job as the first Food Service Director at McHenry County College, where she served for twenty-four years. In parallel, she built a highly successful catering business called Jacquie’s Catering, which she owned and operated for eighteen years. Jackie also served a term as the President of the Illinois Restaurant Association.
Even after retirement, Jackie stayed active. She volunteered at multiple not-for-profits, including The Raue Center for the Arts.
But more than her passion for cooking, baking, and service to others, Jackie will be remembered for how much she loved her family and friends.
Jackie is survived by her children, Paul (Marion) Johnson, Lori (Peter) Cook, and Brad (Michele) Johnson; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Louise), Joshua, Kelsi (JP), Ryan, Kerri, Michaela, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Sloane and Leighton; and her sister, Marion Klaris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen, Caroline, John, Mickey, and Lorraine.
