James “Jack” E. Gryczka, age 97, of the Village of Lakewood, IL, died March 28, 2026.
He was born August 14, 1928 in Detroit, MI to Constantine and Eva (Rybicki) Gryczka.
Jack served in the United States Army and graduated from the University of Detroit with an Accounting degree. He was united in marriage to Bernice M. Grifka on September 13, 1952. She preceded in death on August 18, 2010. They spent their married life in Detroit before moving to Des Plaines, IL in 1960. Then in 1987, they moved to the Village of Lakewood.
Jack worked for various companies in corporate taxes until his retirement in 1992. During retirement, he joined the McHenry County Enterprise Club where he enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his friends. He was an avid everyday walker and loved working in his yard. Jack also loved traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his children, Sheryl (Tom) Gierahn of Burlington, WI, and Todd (Cathie) of Boise, Idaho; his grandchildren, Michael (Sharon) Gryczka, Mark (Taylor) Gryczka, Steven (Julie) Gryczka, and Matthew (Maggie) Gierahn; his great-grandchildren, Jacob, James, Jack, Kennedy, Peyton, Hallie, Clare, Lexie, and Sophie; and his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernice; and brothers, Conrad (Joan) Gryczka and Robert (Bonnie) Gryczka.
Relatives and friends may visit with Jack’s family on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Entombment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
