James Martin Jennings

James Martin Jennings, age 56, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Jimmy grew up in Crystal Lake and proudly called it home his entire life. He found great pride in contributing to the family business as a JA Frate driver, serving McHenry County for more than 35 years. One of his greatest honors was transporting freight in the JA Memorial Trailer, a role he continued until recent years. Although not a veteran himself, Jimmy loved sharing the story of the fallen soldiers memorialized on the trailer with anyone who stopped to admire and remember.

Though he made his living on the road, motorcycles and Jeep mudding were his true passions. Time spent with friends and fellow adventure seekers brought him joy and made life meaningful.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Jake Jennings; his former wife, Teresa Jennings; and his mother, Marcia Jennings. He is also survived by his siblings, Jennifer Jennings-Herman (John Herman, Sr.), Jill Dinsmore (Rusty Dinsmore), and Jeffery Jennings (Tammy Jennings).

He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Jen Zoetmulder (Greg Zoetmulder, Abby Hertel, and Alec Hertel), John Herman, Jr. (Natalie Herman), Haley Dinsmore Kuderer (Evan Kuderer, Rory, and Nellie), Meghan Dinsmore (Mike Speranza), and Tara Jennings Meo (Johnny Meo and Grace).

He was preceded in death by his father, Doug Jennings who passed away August 5, 2025.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 4pm until 7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jimmy’s name to Veterans Path to Hope, 805 McHenry Ave., Suite D, Crystal Lake, IL, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
