James “Jim” Paul Tammi, 85, of North Barrington, passed away following a rapid decline in health on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, with his wife Judith by his side.
Jim was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on October 3, 1939, to parents Paul and Helen Tammi.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Judith Tammi, his sister, Jeanne (Stewart) Wagner and his nieces and nephews.
Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he married Judith Kolznak on August 16, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan. He is affectionately known as “Popcorn” to Judith. If asked if he had any children, he would always respond, “None that I know of!”
Jim had close ties with his nieces and nephews and always enjoyed special occasions with them. He was thankful for his close group of friends; and he had a great love for music. He was a happy camper, enjoyed tinkering with his Mercedes, and riding the tractor while cutting the grass.
He was often in service to others, and learned from the American Lung Association that “when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.” He would hand out cards to individuals he saw smoking to encourage them to quit.
He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Avenue, Barrington, IL 60010.
The family will be receiving visitors from 1pm until the time of service at 3pm.
