James Eric “Jim” Juul, age 70, of Wauconda, Illinois, passed away on October 20, 2025, in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 26, 1955, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jim was a graduate of The Blake School in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. He served as Vice President at Curatek Pharmaceuticals and spent decades on the frontier of pharmaceutical development.
He was an avid collector of rare books and fine art, a skilled marksman, and a devoted family man. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jim filled his home with warmth, humor, and music—playing the guitar, banjo, accordion, and nearly any instrument he came across with effortless joy. His boundless curiosity and sharp intellect fueled a lifelong desire to understand the world and how things worked. A master craftsman, painter, and fixer, Jim loved using his hands and his mind to build, restore, and improve everything he touched. He had an extraordinary gift for solving problems and meeting challenges head-on, always approaching them with creativity, patience, and determination. Whether immersed in a project or deep in conversation, he brought a profound sense of wonder and a relentless drive to learn.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Tracy Juul, with whom he recently celebrated 45 years of loving marriage; his children Eric (Ciara Yang) Juul, Maren Juul, Jorgen (Nicole) Juul, and Jensen Juul (Dana DuCasse); and his cherished grandchildren, Jimmy and Henry Juul. He is also survived by his brother Steve (Diane) Juul. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Alton “Ted” Juul, and his brother David Juul.
A funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st, at Davenport Family Funeral Home in Barrington, followed by Mass at Transfiguration Church in Wauconda at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation and the American Heart Association.
