Jim S. Pirie, age 60, passed away at home on July 23, 2023, with his loving family by his side, after a year-long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Melissa Pirie of 29 years. Loving father of Nash (24) and Dylan (19) Pirie of Barrington, IL. Jim was a greatly loved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend to many.
Jim was born in Ridgewood, NJ, the son of Robert Bruce Pirie Jr. and Barbara Pirie. He graduated from Northern Highlands Regional High School and earned a bachelor's Degree in Business from Lynchburg College, Virginia. After college, Jim started his highly successful 38-year career in the Consumer Package Goods industry working at General Foods, Kraft Foods, Sara Lee, and currently at Bimbo Bakeries USA.
Jim dedicated his life to his family and community. He was an active supporter of many charities, Back on My Feet and Multiple Sclerosis 150 Bike Ride, to name a few. His love of sports spanned from playing soccer at Lynchburg College, skiing in the mountains of Colorado, cycling, fishing, golfing, scuba diving, a decade of coaching his boys' youth soccer and lacrosse teams, and enjoying the outdoors. Throughout his entire life, he also enjoyed traveling and spending time at his family's summer home in Long Beach Island, NJ.
Jim lived an extraordinary life and brought joy to everyone he met through his kind spirit. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Melissa, his loving sons, Nash and Dylan; his mother Barbara Pirie, his in-laws, Wayne and Lynda Smith of Morrisville, NY, siblings, Virginia Pirie and husband Tom Harbeck of Tenafly, NJ, Nancy Pirie and Bob Dalsey of Medford Lakes, NJ, Rob Pirie III and Marisa Panecki of Hawthorne, NJ, sister-in-law Julie Crisp and husband Dale Crisp of Cicero, NY. Adored uncle of Taylor, Matt, Michael, Mackenzie, Rebecca, Bruce, Kate, Cole, Conor, Jeffrey, Kim, Eric, Kelly, Dana, Dale, and Joanna. Great uncle to Faith, Brooks, James, Cameron, Miles, Madison, Ethan, Kylee, Karlee, Lennon, and Kylo.
A memorial visitation for Jim will be held from from 1pm until the memorial service at 3pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Jim’s fighting spirit and strength, donations may be made in memory of Jim Pirie to support the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center Fund at the University of Chicago Medicine.
