James Leon Timmer, 81, of McHenry, Illinois, passed away on April 27th, 2025. Born on January 7th, 1944 in San Rafael CA, he was a devoted husband to Theresa.
Jim was a skilled electrician. In retirement he was known for his remarkable ability to craft beautiful pieces from wood with nothing more than a picture for inspiration. His garage was his sanctuary, where he spent countless hours creating thoughtful projects for Theresa and many others.
A true handyman, Jim had an extraordinary talent for fixing anything salvageable, always finding a way to breathe new life into broken items. His grandchildren would say he has "magic fingers".
Beyond his craftsmanship, Jim was deeply committed to serving his friends, neighbors and community. For years he selflessly mowed lawns and cleared snow for his neighbors, embodying a spirit of generosity and care. His dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jim was also a gifted storyteller. He delighted family and friends with tales of his adventures traveling on his Harley, prairie dog hunting in South Dakota and working for the union pulling electric wires. His infectious laugh and love for sharing stories made every gathering brighter.
Those who knew Jim will remember his warmth, humor and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. Jim was soft-spoken and resilient through so many physical challenges and limitations later in life.
He is survived by his wife Theresa, daughter Lynn Timmer, grandchildren Vanessa, Hunter (Brittany), Jacob, great grandchildren Addy and Kinsley and sister Janet Schneiderman. Jim was preceded in death by his son Eugene and sister Jean Foster.
May his memory bring comfort to all whose lives he touched. He will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 6 from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. at The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake with luncheon to follow. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, IL.
