Janice “Jan” A. Schwanke, of Huntley, formerly of Salem, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2026 at the age of 92.
She was born October 12, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late Andrew and Ardis (Lindquist) Redmann.
Jan was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. Jan found joy in reading, cooking, golfing, knitting, dancing, watching figure skating, singing in several choirs, and acting in community theater. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress whose creativity and craftsmanship were evident in everything she made. She lovingly sewed clothing for her family and created handmade dolls. She was deeply involved in her church in Seneca, South Carolina, and served as editor of her neighborhood newspaper at Keowee Key. Jan was known for her delicious turkey dinners, generous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. Before retiring with her husband, Art, to South Carolina, she worked in a variety of office management positions.
Jan was the loving wife of the late Arthur “Art” Schwanke; loving mother of her daughters, Terri (Jim Fenderson) Schneider, Donna (Bob) Watson, the late Amy Foley, and Peggy (Steve) Bucklin; beloved grandma of Colleen (Patrick) Cameron, Elizabeth Gregerson, Julie (Derek Warner) Watson, Rob Watson, Bridget Bucklin, Shannon (Zach O’Hanlon) Bucklin, and Tara (Atticus Ludwig) Bucklin; cherished “GG Jan” of Amalie Cameron, Gigi and Zeke Gregerson; and loving sister of John (the late Diane) Redmann and the late Andrew (the late Elsie) Redmann.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
