Janice S. (Mullins) Hurley

Janice S. Hurley, 79, of Fox River Grove, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 31, 2023. Born in Bulan, Kentucky on May 24, 1944, to Pierce and Ida Mae (Watson) Mullins, Janice was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

In 1964, Janice married the love of her life, Willard. Together they raised two sons in Streamwood and, after the boys graduated from high school, moved to Fox River Grove.

Born and raised in the South, Janice carried her southern traditions with her throughout her life. She was a simple woman, not really that complicated, but had her own ideas and it was difficult to change her mind. A lady on the go, she simply enjoyed life and took advantage of the time she had with the people she loved. Whether she was feeding them, caring for them or sharing a gentle hug or warm smile, Janice knew how to love.

Faith in Jesus was the center of Janice’s life. Whether she was teaching Sunday School in her early years, or more recently greeting guests at the door at Living Grace Community Church, Janice was always thinking of others. She was amazing at remembering birthdays and anniversaries and never skipped an opportunity to make someone feel loved.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Willard; son, Michael (Julia); granddaughters, Rachel (Kullen) Cook, Becca and Hannah Hurley; siblings, Harold (Sharon) Mullins, Billy Mullins, Anna (Elisha) Hughes, and Bobby (Betty) Mullins; along with many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Timothy; and her brother, James.

A visitation will be on Friday, September 8, from 4pm until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue Saturday, September 9, from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens.
