Jean Marie (Alexander) Soranno

Jean Marie Soranno, 91, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2022.  She was born in Chicago on July 24, 1931, to Gino and Ersilia (nee Magi) Alexander.

Jean graduated from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago in 1949 and started her career in banking and accounting.  The following year she met the love of her life, Frank Soranno.  They were married on July 18, 1953, and together raised two daughters, Donna and Nancy.

In 1964, Jean and Frank made the decision to move from Chicago to Des Plaines where they raised their family and lived for 30 years.  When they both retired, they moved to Crystal Lake to be closer to their daughters and their grandchildren.

Jean worked in Banking/Accounting for 40 years. She started her career at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago. When she moved to Des Plaines, she became Night Service Desk Supervisor for Jewel Osco. Once the girls were older, she worked day shift for the First National Bank of Des Plaines in the Proof Department. Jean was so talented with numbers that her daughters encouraged her to work with them at GTE Directories Corporation in the Accounting department. She retired from GTE Directories corporation in 1986.

Jean always had the biggest, brightest smile on her face and saw the silver lining in any given situation.  She was thoughtful and kind to everyone.  Her hobby in retirement was caring for her grandchildren and sending numerous handwritten notes and cards to celebrate birthdays, holidays and anniversaries to her family and friends.  She was a true angel on earth.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Soranno; daughters, Donna (Joseph) Matus and Nancy (Patrick) Morrison; grandchildren, Erin Dorsey (Derek Hart), David (Megan) Freitag, Amanda (Paul) Mroz, Patrick (Lauren) Morrison, Brett Freitag and James (Kristy) Matus; great grandchildren Addison, Amelia, Jameson, Leah, Payton, Kate, Ella, Ryder and Kayleigh; her sister, Lena (the late Ronald) Karczewski; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Irsuto, and sisters-in-law, Katherine Swanson, Martha Soranno, Frances Duran, Margaret Bergantino, and Mary Lobraico.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 14, from 9:30am until the time of mass at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 1023 McHenry Avenue, Crystal Lake.  Entombment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, IL.
