Born on September 2, 1940, in Minnesota, Jerry Thrush passed away in Crystal Lake, IL, on May 13, 2025. Jerry’s passing leaves behind a wide circle of loved ones who believe his vibrant, spirited life was too short. They also know that the life he lived was full, overflowing with love, fun, generosity, and joy.
Jerry was a devoted husband to Marie Thrush, a proud father to Tony (Jenny) Thrush, and an endlessly loving grandfather to Ian and Aidan Thrush. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald (Mary) Thrush, Kate (the late Paul) Lovan, David (Donna) Thrush, and Robert (Patricia) Thrush, as well as several nieces and nephews and the family's beloved friend, Chris Bond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Beatrice Thrush.
Known for his unwavering dedication to the people around him, Jerry was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness to all, his bright presence, and his deep commitment to others. He loved being outdoors and traveling to new places. Jerry and Marie were an extraordinary pair—supportive, balanced, and generous with their love. They created a family built on strong bonds, laughter, and mutual respect. Jerry was always working on a project—his to-do list was constantly filled with ideas for both him and the people he cared about.
Jerry’s career began in cash register repair, eventually evolving alongside technology into computer programming. He built a long and successful career in the banking and manufacturing sectors, where he not only developed systems but also taught others how to use them, and guided clients as a trusted sales consultant. Whether he was coding, explaining, or fostering a new partnership, Jerry’s work was grounded in relationships and a genuine desire to help others succeed. After retiring, he began a second career doing maintenance for Crystal Lake Montessori School, a chapter he cherished for the time it gave him with children, friends, and family.
When that chapter ended, he took on a new role at ACE Hardware, where he liked to say he was just keeping busy, but in truth, he was doing what he always did: helping others with their projects, sharing ideas, and making connections. In the end, he retired three times—each time pulled back in by his love for people and purpose.
Jerry generously gave his time to the community and countless volunteer projects over the years. Jerry was a teacher, innovator, partner, listener, and catalyst. He brought energy into every room and left everyone a little better for having been around him.Jerry could often be found working in the yard on sunny afternoons, taking long drives with Marie, trying new restaurants with friends, or catching up with his pal Tony.
He loved being a grandpa more than anything. Whether it was playing board games, taking the boys out in their pajamas for donuts, listening to them play their instruments, talking about their day or the latest game, or playing catch in the yard, he showed up with love, joy, and his whole heart. He gave the kind of hugs that lingered long after the moment passed.
A visitation will be held at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, IL (419 E Terra Cotta Ave #176) on Monday, May 19, from 4–8 p.m. A funeral mass will follow on Tuesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you continue Jerry’s kind spirit by giving your time, a listening ear, and kindness to others. For those who still wish to make a donation, the family invites you to support any organization or cause that reflects your own passions. Jerry believed in lifting people up, and nothing would honor him more than seeing kindness passed forward in his name.
