In Loving Memory of Our Beautiful Mother
Jo Barkley, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on September 1, 2026.
Born in 1930, Jo was the third of five children, and the cherished daughter of Nancy and Stephen Notaro. She was preceded in death by Tom, her husband of 61 years, her Mom and Dad, her beautiful sisters, Sarah and Nickie, and her brother, Carm.
Jo was married to the love of her life, Tom Barkley. She was a devoted homemaker, and poured her heart into her family, creating a legacy of love, and cherished traditions. Nothing brought her more happiness than caring for and nurturing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Together, Jo and Tom raised four children: Donna (Lou) Agoston, Tommy (DeeDee) Barkley, Nancy (Gary) Halls, Mary Jo (Tom) Pausteck. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lauren (Aaron), Jennifer (Ramayan), Leigha (Jim), Julie (Kyle), Stephanie (Chase), Caitlyn (Tyler), Jessica (Louie), Melissa (David), Scott (Lauren), Joanna (Matt), Allison (Davide), and her 28 great grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Frank, who she loved spending time with. He is 10 years younger than Jo…. Reminiscing with him always gave her so much joy.
For 96 years, she blessed the lives of those around her. Jo had a unique gift for making everyone feel seen, loved, and important. She was a true matriarch whose love and guidance helped shape generations.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts and stories of those she loved.
Visitation and funeral will take place at Saint Anne’s church in Barrington, Illinois.
