Joan Wu Hwang

Joan Wu Hwang, 72, of Crystal Lake, passed away on June 18, 2026. She was born on November 7, 1953, in Taichung, Taiwan, to R.C. and P.K. Wu. 

Joan came to the United States to earn her master's degree at North Carolina State University, a journey that reflected her determination and love of learning.

On June 6, 1985, she married Lih-Tyng Hwang in Raleigh, North Carolina. Together they shared over 41 years of marriage and raised their son, Robert.

Joan was a devoted temple host and was always willing to help others. She cared deeply about people and spent much of her life doing what she could to make a difference in the lives of those around her. Her kindness, generosity, and caring nature will be remembered by all who knew her.

Joan is survived by her husband, Lih-Tyng Hwang; her son, Robert Hwang; her sister, Shanna Wu Pecoraro; and her brother, Feng-Long Wu.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
