Joan M. Olson, née Killinger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Barrington Hills, Illinois, on August 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan married her high school sweetheart, Donald “Don” Olson, and together they celebrated an extraordinary 67 years of marriage. Their life together was a true partnership—one built on love, family, hard work, and a devotion to one another that spanned nearly seven decades.
A longtime resident of Barrington Hills, Illinois, Joan also enjoyed spending part of each year in Palm Springs, California, a place that became a special part of her life. Joan loved to travel and cherished the experiences, friendships, and memories she and Don made together throughout the years.
Alongside Don, Joan helped grow the family business while raising their family and creating a home filled with love and tradition. Although she took great pride in what she and Don built together, her greatest joy and accomplishment was always her family.
Joan was the loving mother of the late Donna Jo Olson Schmit, Daniel Olson, and Dione Olson Reyes, and mother-in-law of Christopher Reyes. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Adam Unbach, Ashley Olson, Cole Reyes, Alexandra Olson, and Sydney Reyes.
Joan will be remembered for her strength, warmth, devotion to her family, and the countless ways she cared for the people she loved. She treasured family gatherings, holidays and celebrations, but most of all, she treasured simply having her family together.
The life Joan and Don created over their 67 years of marriage is her lasting legacy. It lives on in their children and grandchildren, in the family business they worked so hard to build, in the traditions they created, and in the many memories that will continue to be shared for generations.
While her family is deeply saddened by her passing, they are profoundly grateful for the many years, travels, celebrations, conversations, laughter, and ordinary moments they were fortunate enough to share with her.
Joan leaves behind a family that loved her dearly and a lifetime of memories that will never be forgotten.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4 p.m. to time of Memorial Service 7:30 p.m. all at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joan's name can be made to JourneyCare Hospice.
