John Richard Burgess, 76 of Barrington, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. He was born on August 21, 1949, in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Edgar Herbert and Edna Marie (nee Shadden) Burgess.
John was raised in Cranston, Rhode Island alongside his 5 siblings and he carried a deep appreciation for family, hard work and education throughout his life. He attended Roger Williams University and he continued his studies at New England School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor of Law.
In 1977, John relocated to Springfield, Illinois where he worked for Pillsbury before starting a new chapter in Buffalo, New York. During his ten years in Buffalo, he continued to build both his career and personal life, forming lasting friendships that would remain meaningful to him for years to come.
In 1991, he founded his own consulting company in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to building and growing the business from the ground up. His greatest passion in life was nurturing his business and witnessing its continued success, a source of immense pride and fulfillment throughout his career. Through years of hard work, determination and vision, he successfully expanded the company and ultimately achieved the rewarding milestone of retirement.
In retirement, he and his wife, Sharron, embraced their love of travel and spent the next eight years exploring the word together. Rarely home for long, he was happiest while planning or enjoying his next vacation, always eager for new experiences and adventures. He was also an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered on the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Celtics.
John is survived by his wife of 8 years, Sharron (nee St. Clair); Children, Tyler (Elise) Burgess, Tonia (Daniel) Etoh, Kalie Burgess, Brianna Burgess, and Sean Burgess; grandchildren, Tommy, Julianna, Skylar, Jazlene, Jaxon, Benjamin, Sarah, Luke, Maverick, Leighton, and Lincoln; and siblings, Dorothy Harvey and Bertha (David) Golden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Edna; Brother, Eddie Burgess; and sisters, Jean and Barbara Burgess.
