John Michael D’Ambrosio, 77, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Florida area, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023. John was born October 18, 1945 in Detriot, Michigan to the late Mariano and Mary Francis (nee Bielman) D’Ambrosio.
John was a proud Marine and served as an air traffic controller in Chu Lai, Vietnam. He was FAA air traffic controller at the Miami Tower until his termination by President Reagan when they went on strike in 1981. After being fired, John was a car salesman for 17 years at Holman Automotive Lincoln-Mercury. John was re-hired as an air traffic controller by the Department of Defense at the Homestead Air Force Base in 2001 until his retirement in 2011.
John is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynne Leon; his children, Dean (Leigh Anne) D’Ambrosio, Daniel (Jessica) D’Ambrosio, and Melissa D’Ambrosio; step-children, Kristie (Ted) Long and Tricia Feerer; grandchildren, Olivia, Sage, McKinley, Ryan, Tyler, Tori, and Evan; brother, Tom D’Ambrosio.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 from 10 till the time of service at 12pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, IL.
