It is with sadness we share the passing of John Clinton Frick, Jr., of Woodstock, IL, on August 18, 2026 from Alzheimer’s related complications. Born in New Brighton, PA, August 25, 1943, to steel worker John Clinton Sr. and devoted wife, Thalia Frick, he was the oldest of three boys and grew up loving the outdoors, playing baseball and fishing.
He met his bride, Priscilla Marjorie Larson, when they both attended college in Evanston, IL. They were married June 25th, 1966. John served as a Second Lieutenant during the Vietnam War and he and Priscilla had two children, Gregory Clinton and Stephanie Lynn.
He was an avid sports fan and never missed a Chicago White Sox or Bears game, and would not willingly admit he had previously been a temperamental Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed college basketball, particularly supporting the schools attended by his children, University of Illinois and Western Michigan University. John was very active in his children’s lives, coaching his son’s baseball team and serving as a cub scout and boy scout troop leader, and spending countless hours at both children’s swim meets. When he wasn’t attending his children’s numerous activities on the weekends, he was outdoors tending to the yard and playing fetch with his dogs, whom he so adored. John loved to camp, canoe, hike and take walks. On rainy days, he’d be in a basement room dedicated to the intricate system he set up to enjoy running his Lionel trains. When he finally settled down late in the evenings, he could be found reclining in his favorite chair, watching a Western and eating peanut M&Ms.
John and Priscilla traveled to Michigan for the birth of each of their four grandchildren, Shannon, Erin, Colleen and Liam and visited often thereafter, providing additional hands and support in their busy lives. When he wasn’t playing with the grandchildren, he always had the camcorder on his shoulder to capture cherished memories.
John worked as a salesman for Interstate Pallet Company until his retirement, when he left to provide full time care to his wife, Priscilla. He surprised everyone when he even learned to cook! He lovingly cared for her for more than 20 years, until both of their health declined and they moved into a memory care facility.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John Clinton Sr. and Thalia Frick and his brother Gary Frick, and is survived by his wife, Priscilla M. Frick (Algonquin, IL); his younger brother, Joel Frick (Gerri, Nokomis, Florida), his children, Gregory C. Frick (Sharon, Elgin, IL) and Stephanie L. Morris (Grosse Pointe Park, MI); his five grandchildren Alexandra A. Morrison (Lake In The Hills, IL), Shannon A. Morris (Edgewater, IL), Erin R. Morris (Grosse Pointe Woods MI), Colleen K. Morris (Paris, France) and William C. Morris Jr. (Grosse Pointe Park, MI) and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on September 14, 2026 at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, with visitation 9-11am and service at 11am; the family will then travel to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where John will be laid to rest with full military honors.
