John Andrew Georgeson

John Andrew Georgeson, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

John was born April 21,1930 in Capron Illinois, a small farming community outside of Rockford. John's family immigrated from Norway settling in Capron during the late 1800's. With both his parents being raised in Capron, he had many family members nearby. Because he was surrounded by relatives growing up, family was John's main focus throughout his life. John and his brother grew up in Capron working on the family farms (Georgeson and Larson), which would instill a love of farming, and the outdoors in general, throughout his life. He never forgot his small-town roots and looked back on them fondly. 

John graduated from Boone-McHenry Township High School in 1948 and continued his education at the University of Illinois, Champaign. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Health Education in 1952 and was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and ROTC. His military training enabled him to serve his country as a lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service to his country and was thrilled to participate in the Chicago Honor Flight in 2018.

Once John was honorably discharged from the Army in 1954, he applied his knowledge and work ethic to his civilian life, creating a successful business and a strong family legacy. John was a natural born salesman. He worked in the electrical industry as a Manufacturer Representative, taking all that knowledge and experience to purchase his own company, JSG Electric, in 1973. He loved his work and his customers, some of which became life-long friends. Through his work he enjoyed many golf outings, dinners and vacations with customers solidifying his role as a trusted and loyal friend and business partner. With the respect he earned, he maintained a successful business over the next 23 years allowing him to fulfill his main passion - being a stable, constant and loving presence for his family. 

Upon retiring, John lived to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Nothing put a smile on his face more than watching his grandchildren grow up and experience life. He was proud of all their accomplishments, big and small, and made sure they knew he loved and was proud of them.

John is survived by his loving children, David (Lori) Georgeson, Douglas (Julie) Georgeson, Karen (Richard) Walen and John B (Susan) Georgeson. Grandchildren John C (Emily) Georgeson, Jennifer (Jonathon) Grunwaldt, Brian (Lauren) Georgeson, Allison Georgeson, Shawn (Kim Koehler) Rohdenburg, Jack Georgeson, Ellie Georgeson and Annie Georgeson. and great grandchildren Lily and Natalie Georgeson.

He is preceded in death by his brother, William N Georgeson, and his parents William and Norma (Larson) Georgeson.

A visitation for John will be held from 9 am until the time of the service at 10am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Capron Lutheran Church, 155 2nd St, Capron, IL 61012. Private burial to follow.
