John W. Loomis, 64, of Barrington, died peacefully on June 9, 2026.
John was born in Evanston on December 31, 1961, and was adopted by Walter and Carylee (nee Slaughter) Loomis.
John was the proud father of Charles Loomis and loved him dearly. He enjoyed spending time cheering for Charlie at his basketball and rugby games and supported him in all that he did.
In his spare time, John enjoyed reading and writing, and he loved listening to music. He had a special love for horses and greatly enjoyed horseback riding. John loved to take trips out to Wyoming and Nebraska, and was always encouraging people to go out west and ride a horse.
John joined the Lions Club in November 1990 and dedicated more than 35 years of service to the organization and community. Throughout his years as a Lion, he served in many leadership roles, including President, Treasurer, and Board Member. His commitment to the club was evident in everything he did. For many years, John handled the lion's share of the club's fundraising calls, helping ensure the success of countless projects and activities. He was always willing to step forward when work needed to be done and could be counted on to support the club's mission.
Beyond his many contributions, John will be remembered for the way he treated people. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, greeting friends and strangers alike with warmth and kindness. He treated people as if they were close friends, and in doing so, built lasting relationships throughout the community.
John's dedication, friendship, and service will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.
John is survived by his son, Charles Loomis, his sister, Liz Rutherford, and his birth mother, Deanna Hartenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
