John Ortinau, 99, of Round Lake, Illinois, passed away on July 3, 2026. Born on August 16, 1926, in Sacalaz, Romania, John was the son of Franz and Maria Ortinau.
A longtime snowbird, he happily split his years between Clearwater, Florida, and the northern Illinois suburbs. He was a proud, longtime member of the Chicago Danube Swabians and enjoyed their weekly card games.
John worked for over 30 years at Osgood Industries in Oldsmar, Florida. He will be remembered for his strong leadership, tireless work ethic, devotion to his family, and ever-present willingness to lend a hand.
In retirement, John embraced a simple, active life—enjoying long walks, tending to his garden, riding his bike, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Hilda Heinreichsberger, and his son-in-law, Jerry DeNicolo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Margaret (Katzenmayer); his daughter, Kathy DeNicolo; and his son-in-law, Erich Heinreichsberger. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Vito DeNicolo, Erika Palmer, and Amanda Rivera (married to Marques Rivera); and his great-grandson, Rafael Rivera.
The family will honor John's life privately.
