It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John C. Prahler, who passed away peacefully at home on 5/21/2026 in Barrington, IL. John was born on April 9, 1954, in Medina, NY to Charles and Kathryn Prahler (née Blanchard), both of whom preceded him in death.
John was the beloved husband of 19 years to Trudy Prahler and a devoted brother to Jeffrey (Robin) Prahler. He is survived by his children, Christina (Jason) Calvaresi, Jarad Prahler, Justin Prahler, and a devoted stepfather to Jennifer Crowley and Kevin Colovos. He carried deep love and hope for all of his children.
He was also a proud grandfather to Amelia Calvaresi and Nick Kurowski who brought him tremendous joy.
John attended University of Buffalo, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He dedicated 37 years of his professional life to Mizkan Americas, retiring as Director of Corporate Engineering. His strong work ethic, precision, and commitment to excellence were admired by colleagues, friends, and family alike.
Outside of his career, John found happiness in gardening, hiking through state parks, and taking road trips with Trudy in his Corvette. He especially treasured family traditions, including preparing the Thanksgiving meal each year, where his turkey and stuffing became legendary among those he loved.
John will be remembered as a deeply caring man who cherished his family and maintained lifelong friendships spanning Tennessee, New York, and the Chicago area.
He believed firmly in doing things the right way, a lesson reflected in the beautiful craftsmanship and perfection he brought to every project in and around his home.
A celebration of John’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
