John “Jack” W. Sullivan Jr., 84, of Lake Barrington passed away on February 28, 2023. He was born on February 2, 1939 in Chicago, IL to the late John Sr. and Margaret Sullivan.
Jack was a proud 1957 graduate of Fenwick High School. On June 18, 1960, Jack married Joan Guardalabene at St. Bernadine’s Church in Forest Park. They celebrated 62 beautiful years of marriage and were blessed with three children.
He served the Oak Park community for 25 years as a police officer; he retired at the age of 50 as a Lieutenant in 1989.
After his retirement, Jack continued in law enforcement. His most notable services included his roles as Chief of Investigations for the Illinois Attorney General, Chief of Security for Arlington Park and with the US Marshall Service.
He was a natural athlete and briefly played professional baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates briefly. He was inducted into the Forest Park Softball Hall of Fame for his athleticism with 16” Softball; he also loved to golf and play basketball.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Joan Sullivan; children, Ken (Elizabeth) Sullivan, John (Nadiya) Sullivan, and Jackie (Tim) Throop; grandchildren, Michael (Chelsea), Kelly, Anne, Matthew, Justine, JW, Mackenzie, Olena, Danny and Maggie; great-granddaughter, Chloe; siblings, Mary Ellen (Richard), Margaret (Joe), Stephen (Linda); and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1 PM until 6 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Visitation will resume on Monday, March 6, from 9 AM until the time of prayers at 10 AM. A procession will follow to St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047 for a 10:30 AM funeral mass. Interment will be private.
