Josef “Joe” Blasy, 92, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, in Barrington, Illinois.
Joe was born on March 25, 1934, in Austria. At just 14 years old, he immigrated to the United States in October 1947. Upon arriving in New York, Joe was met by Travelers Aid and placed on a train to Chicago, where he was reunited with his family, who had previously immigrated to Long Grove. This was the beginning of a remarkable life that he built in his new home.
Joe met the love of his life, Betty, in 1951 in Barrington. They married on October 17, 1953, and together they built a loving family and raised three sons, David, Donald, and Daryl.
Joe worked for Jewel Foods from 1952 until his retirement in 1991. After retirement, he continued doing what he enjoyed by working at Dave’s Bait and Tackle in Crystal Lake.
Joe had a love for fishing, gardening, and, of course, his beloved Cubbies. He cherished his family and the simple joys of life, and he will be remembered for the warmth and love he brought to those around him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Betty; sons Donald (Kim) and Daryl (Kelly); daughter-in-law, Wendie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, David.
Joe will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to have him in their lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew and loved him.
