Joseph Patrick Connelly, 70, of Barrington, passed away peacefully January 16, 2026 in Chicago. He was born April 1, 1955 in Chicago to Joseph and Lorraine (nee Kissane) Connelly.
Raised in Westchester, Illinois, he attended Divine Providence Parish School and St. Joseph High School where he distinguished himself academically and through service, earning his Eagle Scout badge during his high school years. He went on to become a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Committed to continued growth and professional excellence, he later earned a master’s degree in business administration, accountancy and finance from DePaul University, building a foundation that guided his career.
Joseph held a CPA designation and worked in public accounting for 2 years before starting his distinguished career in banking. The majority of Joe’s 40-year career was spent working at Harris Bank and BMO in Barrington.
Before his active involvement in the Barrington community, Joe was a member of the Oakbrook Jaycees. He went on to be a 29-year member of the Barrington Rotary Club where he served 4 years as president. He was also proud of his involvement in the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce and with Barrington Hospice becoming their mascot known as the “Hospice Duck”.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Kathleen (nee Madden) and his daughter, Caroline; his sister, Mary Ellen (Robert) Kastenholz; two nephews, Kevin (Jennifer) and Brian (Meghan) Kastenholz; and his niece, Kathleen (Greg) Feldkamp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lorraine.
Joe’s family would like to extend their thanks to the Medical Staff at Rush University Medical Center; Rush/MD Anderson Cancer Center; Rush/MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Lisle; Rush Oak Park Wound Care; and Rush Oakbrook. The quality of care, kindness, compassion and communication given to Joe and extended to his family was exceptional and they are forever grateful.
