Judy L. May

Judy Lynn May, 75, of Crystal Lake died June 6, 2026, at Northwestern Medicine – McHenry Hospital. She was born April 11, 1951, in Elkhorn, Wis. to Michael “John” and Pearl (Schluter) Willhammer. 

Thirty-eight years ago, the Crystal Lake Community High School graduate married Leonard May and settled down in her hometown. During Judy’s lifetime, she worked for Home State Bank in Crystal Lake, Western Insurance in McHenry and later at the Health Bridge and Crystal Lake YMCA fitness centers. She loved cooking, especially baking, and the Chicago Cubs. She also was an avid gardener and animal lover – especially cats.

Over the years, her good nature, sense of humor and strong work ethic earned her many friends.

She is survived by a sister, Carol (Kurt) Begalka of Harvard; stepson, Michael May and stepdaughter, Michele (Michael) May-Warshaw, both of Arizona; grandchildren, Jacob (Kristel) Warshaw of South Carolina, Stephanie (Alexander) Warshaw-Messina of Alaska, and Joshua Warshaw of Alabama; nephews Casey (Jamie) Tipps of Caledonia, and Gus Tipps of Walworth, Wis; great nephews, Haden and Avery Tipps; and great-grandchild, Gracie Mae Warshaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Leonard.

A visitation will be held Friday, June 12, from 3:30 p.m. until the time of a brief memorial service at 5 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Judy's name may be made to an animal-welfare nonprofit of your choosing or to the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Crystal Lake, IL.
