June Ruth Ekstrom (nee Broberg),82, a longtime resident of Barrington, passed away on August 20, 2011 in Barrington. She was born on July 6,1929, in Evanston, Illinois. June graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946 and attended North Park College in Chicago. She worked as a real estate agent with Baird and Warner in Barrington for over 20 years. She greatly enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Country Home and Garden Club of Barrington. She was the beloved wife of Edward Waldemar Ekstrom. They were married on September 16, 1950 in Chicago and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage, celebrating their Diamond Anniversary last September. She was the mother of Keith Edward Ekstrom of Minnesota, Loren “Larry” Edward (Laura) Ekstrom of Barrington and Diane Ekstrom Slocum of Wisconsin; grandmother of Elizabeth Ann Ekstrom, Kristina Susan Ekstrom, Grant Woodward Ekstrom, Ella Albright Ekstrom, Brittany Slocum Hobratschk, Emmalene Diane Slocum, Jocelyn May Slocum and Joseph Graham Slocum; sister of Dorothy Margit Bengtson of Park Ridge, Dewey Orvey “Orv” (Mary Lou) Broberg of Florida, and Ralph Eric (Trudy) Broberg of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Orvey and Ruth Jonsson Broberg.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 E. Main Street, Barrington, IL, 60010. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Road, Barrington, IL, 60010. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
June will be remembered by the many lives she lovingly touched and her devotion to her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swedish American Museum – June Ekstrom Memorial Fund, 5211 N. Clark St., Chicago,"" IL 60640.
