Katie Barrett

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathleen Lorraine “Katie” Barrett, of Cary, Illinois, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the age of 86. Katie was surrounded by her family and loved ones at the time of her passing.

Katie was born March 31, 1939, in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Charley and Thelma (nee Bennett) Davies. She grew up in Lone Rock, Wisconsin, where her parents operated a grocery store, before moving to New Lisbon, Wisconsin, where the family lived on a dairy farm.

Katie thrived during her time at New Lisbon high school, where she was a homecoming queen, cheerleader and athlete. She excelled in track and field, earning the title of fastest runner in Juneau County.

She later married her high school sweetheart, John Barrett. Though their union eventually ended, it brought three wonderful children into the world. Katie was a resident of Cary where she happily lived for over 43 years. As a single mother, Katie, returned to school and proudly earned her real estate license, going on to enjoy a successful career in selling homes. She also served as President of Parents Without Partners (PWP), an organization close to her heart.

Katie was a woman of many talents and interests. She spent her summers working as a psychic medium at the Wonewoc Spiritual Camp and was always ready to share her gifts with those around her. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, playing Canasta and sharing stories and laughter. Affectionately known as “The Player” around the card table, Katie had an infectious laugh that brought joy to everyone who knew her.

Katie is survived by her children, John (Mary) and Mike (Annette) Barrett; her adopted son Roy (Debra) Ori, her grandchildren, Mason (Hannah) Bucklin, Laura (Ethan) Deyo, Jack Bucklin, Jenna Radmer, Tanner Barrett, Sean Radmer, Mikaela Barrett, Cassidy Radmer (Mason Miller), Cassandra (Sam McDaid) Barrett, Ashley Barrett, Tyler Barrett (Kyla Daley), Alexandra Barrett, and Michael Barrett Jr, and her great-grandchildren, Mason Jr., Rosalind, Braden, Noah, David, and Julianna, along with many dear friends, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” (Mary Lou) Davies; her daughter, Julie Barrett; infant great-granddaughters, Georgia and Ivy; and her son-in-law, David Bucklin.

Katie will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her spirit, strength, and sense of humor live on in the hearts of those she loved.
