Louis Kevin Mohapp, 72 of Huntley, Illinois was called home on May 17, 2026 after a long illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Dolores Mohapp. The family moved to Woodstock, Illinois in 1958 and soon Kevin was big brother to 5 more siblings.
He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Grade School and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1972 where he made a name for himself on the wrestling team. He went on to study auto mechanics at McHenry County Junior College. He undertook training in building maintenance engineering and following his father’s footsteps working for most of his life as a stationary engineer for several office buildings including Centegra Hospital and the Crystal Lake YMCA.
Growing up on a small farm in Woodstock, Kevin was always looked up to by his 5 siblings. As both parents grew up in Chicago, farm life was a lot like the old sitcom “Green Acres” except mom didn’t wear furs and jewels. Kevin raised hogs for his 4-H project and helped chase escaped horses down the street. He helped load Mark’s Guernsey cow (Maggie Lou) onto Dad’s Volkswagen mini bus to take her to the county fair. He often took his brothers and sister to Woodstock City Park to go fishing and he often watched us while we swam at the Woodstock City Pool.
One thing that people will remember most about Kevin was his big beautiful smile and gorgeous blue eyes. He had a gregarious outgoing personality and made friends with practically everyone he met. He almost always greeted people with a gentle snide remark hoping to provoke a reaction. Sometimes welcome, sometimes not. He was the type of person who would literally help anyone that needed help. If we got stuck in a snowbank at 2 in the morning, we would call Kevin and after some irritating ribbing would come and pull us out.
And there are probably few people left in this world that didn't know that Kevin was a consummate practical joker. He would often go to extreme lengths to inconvenience or embarrass someone. It might be that he would sneak into your car and move the seat up all the way and leave your heat turned on full during the hottest days of summer or possibly fill your house with blown up balloons while you went on vacation to anyone foolish enough to leave a key with him. For Christmas one year he presented several unmentionable articles of “clothing” purchased from Victoria's Secret to our sister and relished in the utter bewilderment she felt as well as shocked disapproval from our mother. (Patt repaid all the boys the following Christmas). He and his friend Bob Mason showed up at many of our high school parties loaded with water balloons. He often enlisted the nieces and nephew to hide HUNDREDS of Christmas and Halloween greetings throughout our sister's house.
Kevin loved all things mechanical. He could look at any engine and figure out what was wrong. He helped his brothers find used car parts at the junk yard and then assisted in installing a new transmission. He loved motorcycling where he always said he felt free and could think most clearly. He took several camping trips out west sometimes with buddies, sometimes alone. On one such trip our Grandma Mohapp passed away. Kevin rode nonstop for 30 hours through wind and rain to get home for her funeral.
Kevin loved family and family get togethers and helped facilitate numerous reunions. He stayed in touch with mom's brothers up until they passed away. He also loved his neighborhood and neighbors. He formed close friendships and they all helped each other out whenever needed. When the City of Huntley announced, they were going to pave over the beautiful original cobblestones on their street, Kevin and the neighbors rallied and put a stop to it. The cobblestones are still there today.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Louis J. Mohapp and Margaret Dolores Mohapp. He is survived by a son, Nathan Carolan whom he dearly loved and by his siblings, Patricia A (Mohapp) Rummer, Prescott, AZ; Mark J. Mohapp, Lake Geneva, WI; Thomas J. Mohapp, Golden, CO; David L. Mohapp (Jane), nieces Jamie and Emily, Antioch, Ill; and John J Mohapp (Jackie), nieces Nikki, Kelsey and nephew Matthew, Cary IL.
A Celebration of Kevin's life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 1 PM -4 PM at D.C. Cobbs, 11808 Coral St, Huntley, IL 60142.
To our brother Kevin, our protector, our tormentor, we love and miss you.
