It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Kurt Schraut on March 4th, 2023 after a short illness. Kurt was a loving father, uncle, grandfather, and mentor who touched the lives of many people throughout his lifetime.
Kurt grew up in Lake Zurich, IL. He studied Physics at the University of Colorado-Boulder and was a lifelong entrepreneur with several businesses. Sequoia Automatic, which he helped lead for over 50 years, is where he impacted the most people. He was admired for his hard work, dedication, and broad expertise in many fields and his love for teaching and mentoring others.
Kurt's love of teaching and mentorship extended beyond the office. Kurt was a great athlete in his youth and used that experience coaching his sons in soccer and basketball, passing on his knowledge of sportsmanship and teamwork along with the mechanics of the games. Everything Kurt did he did well, putting in 100% effort every time.
Kurt was a devoted family man who cherished his children and extended family. He is survived by his daughter, Maggie Kemp and sons, Richard Korinek and James Schraut. He was also an uncle to Dana Skorupa, Katie Licata, Amy Temple, and Kevin Licata, and a loving grandfather to Jaiden, Jaxon, Elijah, James, and Ailan.
Kurt was preceded in death by his loving mother, Grace Schraut in 2004 and his sister Kathy in 2016.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 8, beginning at 4 PM, followed by a memorial service at 7:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake.
As an avid lover of dogs, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue located in Frederick, MD.
Kurt's memory will be cherished by all who knew him and his legacy of hard work, dedication, and passion for teaching and mentoring will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come.
