Laura E. Lutsch (nee Ethel Sherpetosky), 90 of South Barrington, passed away on February 18, 2026. She was born on March 29, 1935, in East Chicago, Indiana to Joseph and Ethel (nee Horvath) Sherpetosky.
Laura was born in East Chicago and, at a young age, moved with her family to Hammond, Indiana where she was raised and built the foundation of her life. She went on to attend Ball State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in interior design. To further her education, she attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving her master’s degree and deepening her passion for creative design.
During her successful career in commercial interior design, she designed the architectural interiors and furnishings of some very well-known skyscrapers and banks in Chicago’s Loop.
On July 31, 1965, she married the love of her life, Dr. Edward Fredric Lutsch. They started their family in Park Ridge, where they raised their two sons for many years before ultimately settling in South Barrington.
During her time at Ball State University, she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and in the mid 1950’s she was crowned Miss Indiana Photoflash.
Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, particularly to Europe, and appreciated the art and cultures of every new country visited. With her love of art, Laura developed a strong passion for painting. Music often filled her home and was something she enjoyed every day. She was an excellent cook, and her stuffed green peppers were always a family favorite.
Laura is survived by her sons, Eric and Brent Lutsch; grandchildren, Kaylee and Bethany Lutsch; niece, Linda Aylesworth; and her great nephews, Matthew and Cameron Aylesworth.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Dr. Edward Lutsch; daughter, Cynthia; parents; and sisters, Evelyn (nee Sherpetosky) Gray and Loretta (nee Sherpetosky) Young.
