Lawrence “Larry” Cotter, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of August 11, 2026. Deeply loved and remembered as a bright light by his family and friends, he will be dearly missed by all.
Larry was born on February 22, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Donald and Betty (Weber) Cotter. The youngest of four children, he spent most of his youth and adult life in the Chicagoland area. He graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 1978 and Western Illinois University in 1982 before building a long and successful career in sales and management in the Chicago-area electrical industry. Larry was married to Kathy Cotter and was the father of two children, Laura and John, both of whom are now successful adults. He is survived by his children, his former wife Kathy, and his siblings, Jim, Greg, and Judy.
Larry was passionate, witty, highly intelligent, and generous. Throughout his professional life, he brought energy and dedication to every endeavor. He was admired for his relentless work ethic and for his sincere commitment to helping colleagues grow, succeed, and become their best selves. He brought that same care and commitment to his family and friends. As a devoted father, Larry surrounded his children with love, levity, and steady encouragement, always focusing on their progress and success. He was a devoted son, sibling, and friend who was always present for his parents, brothers, sister, and friends, and he made those relationships joyful and meaningful.
Larry loved sports of every kind, especially football. His enthusiasm grew as each football season approached, and he remained a devoted Chicago Bears fan through every high and low. He also enjoyed fantasy football and loved playing Scrabble with his family, taking special pleasure in those occasional victories.
The celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047 on August 22, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9-11am followed by a memorial service starting at 11am, immediately followed by a gathering with family and friends at Moretti’s Ristorante at 128 S. Wool Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
In honor of Larry’s love of sports, please wear your favorite sports jersey or sports team insignia clothing. Of course, Cubs and Bears wear is preferred. Packer’s clothing is frowned upon. The family would appreciate the gift of flowers or in Larry's memory, donations that can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
