Linda Long

Linda Long, 77 of South Barrington, was born on November 4, 1948, the daughter of Edwin and Dorothy (Thompson) Klein; sister of Dr. Edwin C. Klein of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; and aunt of Peter and Nikki. Linda passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on July 8, 2026.

After graduating from Westmont High School (Near Johnstown, Pennsylvania), she received a B.S (Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught biology and general science at the middle school level in the Pittsburgh Public Schools from1970 until daughter Laura was born in 1977.

She married Thomas Long in 1971. Together they have three daughters, Laura Van Dorston, Amy Regan, and Rebecca DeBoer and two grandchildren, Declan and Brigid Regan.

During the years her daughters were in the Barrington Public Schools, she was very active in the PTO. She was an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Barrington and chaired the Education Committee when she was on the Session. She loved to square dance and was active in the Arlington Squares Square Dance Club where over the years she and Tom served as presidents, vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer, and lesson assistants. She loved the Elgin Symphony and enjoyed attending their concerts and supported Tom in his position on the Board of Directors.

A memorial service will be held at The Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, Illinois 60010 at 11 am on Friday, July 24, 2026, with family greeting at 10 am prior to the service in Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations either to The Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, Illinois 60010 or to the Elgin Symphony, 20 Dupage Court, Elgin, Illinois 60120.
