Lynne D. Sherman

Lynne D. Sherman, 84, of Crystal Lake, died after a brief illness on Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by family at JourneyCare Hospice Center in Barrington.

Lynne was born in Chicago on June 19, 1941, to Howard and Hazel Sherman.

She worked for 36 years at the Chicago law firm Chapman and Cutler, starting as a legal secretary and advancing to being involved in selecting the firm’s first word processing system, training attorneys and secretaries on the use of McIntosh, Microsoft Office, and document storage systems. In addition, she helped with installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the network servers as a Computer Support Specialist.

After leaving her career to care for her mother, Lynne worked for 11 years in a second career as the Church Secretary & Assistant Treasurer for St. John's Lutheran Church in Algonquin.

Lynne also volunteered as the Treasurer for the Friends of Judson Group, which raises scholarship funds and supports students for Judson College.

She always stayed active by volunteering, attending Bible studies, knitting, crocheting and doing other crafts, making keepsake gifts for family, gardening and even completed a half marathon (13.1 miles) to raise funds for World Vision at age 81. She allowed her nieces and nephews to put her on the back of a Harley, in canoes, kayaks, electric bikes, extreme roller coasters, alpine slides, water slides, chair lifts, and even agreed to a spin on The Zipper carnival ride.

She was always present celebrating our special events and she will be greatly missed.

Lynne is survived by six nieces and nephews, several great and great-great grand nieces and nephews in addition to many friends who were like family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hazel Sherman and brothers Raymond William Sherman and Robert Howard Sherman.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am and an opportunity to share during the memorial service at 10:00 a.m. all at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Burial will follow at Windridge Cemetery, Cary, IL
