Malinda Bacchi

Malinda Bacchi, of Cary, Illinois, passed away at home. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a generous spirit, and service to others. Whether bringing people together through music, organizing a celebration, or helping someone in need, Malinda gave freely of her time and talents.

Family was at the heart of Malinda’s life. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Bacchi and the loving mother of Mary (Michael) McGurn, Michael A. (the late Kerry Pfister) Bacchi, Christine Bacchi, Susan (James) Fairley, and Kathleen Bacchi.

She was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Paul) Carstensen, Kimberley (Brian) Faul, Brian (Robyn) McGurn, James (Gaby) McGurn, Anthony (Rachel) Bacchi, Megan Bacchi, Paige Bacchi, Samantha Bacchi, and Jimmy Fairley; and the treasured great-grandmother of Paul and Aaron Carstensen, Naomi, Fayelynn, and Aurora McGurn, Scarlett Flathau, and Merrit McGurn. She will also be deeply missed by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Malinda’s dedication to her community touched many lives. In 2013, the Cary Park District Board of Commissioners honored her with the “Make A Difference” award for her extensive volunteer work at the Cary Park District Senior Center. Her contributions included organizing the Annual Senior Christmas Party and sharing her love of music as a member of the Cary Canaries Senior Glee Club. She also held the title of Queen of the Cary Red Hat Society for several years.

Her compassion extended to her volunteer work with Home of the Sparrow, supporting women and children affected by abuse, and to preparing Meals on Wheels through the American Red Cross. She served as a Cub Scout leader and was passionately involved in organizing the Girl Scout Ave Maria Medal program.

Faith, music, and service were woven throughout Malinda’s life. She sang in the St. Bartholomew and St. John Berchman’s choirs, served as a PTA member, and organized the annual St. Joseph buffet. She also organized and led an annual children’s Christmas caroling group, sharing the joy of the season with another generation.

In addition to her beloved husband, Malinda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. Curran, Sr., and Josephine C. Curran (née Krejci); her sisters, Irene A. Darmody (née Curran), Janet D. McCandless (née Curran), and Phyllis C. Stone (née Curran); and her brother, Robert J. Curran, Jr.

Malinda leaves a legacy of love, generosity, and community. Her memory will live on in her family, in the friendships she nurtured, and in the many lives she touched.
