Margareta Ortinau

Margareta Ortinau, of Round Lake, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026 at the age of 97. Born on May 14, 1929, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Margareta was the daughter of Jakob and Katharina Katzenmayer.

Margareta shared 75 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Ortinau, building a life together centered around family, hard work, and enduring devotion to one another. For many years, Margareta and John happily divided their time between Clearwater, Florida, and the northern Illinois suburbs, enjoying the friendships and communities they built in both places.

Margareta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family was always at the center of her life. She will be remembered for her strength and warmth, the family traditions she cherished, and the delicious baked goods she lovingly made and shared with those around her. Over her long and remarkable life, she created countless memories that her family will carry with them for generations to come.

Margareta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ortinau; her daughter, Hilda Heinreichsberger; her sister, Katharina Messmer; her brother in law Matthias Messmer and her son-in-law, Jerry DeNicolo.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy DeNicolo, her son-in-law, Erich Heinreichsberger. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Vito DeNicolo, Erika Palmer, and Amanda Rivera (Marques Rivera) and great-grandson, Rafael Rivera.

Margaret’s life spanned more than nine decades and was defined by an extraordinary devotion to her family. She and John shared 75 years of marriage, a testament to the life and family they built together. She leaves behind generations who will carry her memory, her traditions, and her love with them always.

The family will honor Margareta’s life privately.
