Marian A. Dudley

Marian Arthur Dudley, 84, passed away on June 30, 2024 in Barrington, IL. She was born on January 30, 1940 in Bedford County, VA. She was a cherished member of her community, a devoted educator, loving wife, and mother.

Raised in Bedford County, VA, she moved to Amherst County, VA, graduating from Amherst County High School in 1958. She graduated from James Madison University in 1962, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English.

Marian dedicated her career to shaping young minds, first at Pulaski County VA Middle School and then at Ellen Glascow Middle School in Fairfax, VA. Marian was an active PTA member and PTA president working closely with the school principal and teachers supporting the school’s activities. She performed part-time work in the University of MD Adult Education Department’s Accounts Receivable office. She retired after almost ten years as Goddard Spaceflight’s Employee Welfare Association Administrative Secretary. Often referred to as the “Glue of the Association,” she provided continuity between a changing government employee committee who oversaw the operation of the center’s vending machines, employee clubs, cafeteria, and the center recreation center scheduling. Above all, she was a dedicated, caring, and loving homemaker supporting her two children and husband.

She was a life-long member of the North Bedford Baptist Church, where many of her family are buried. Marian’s hobbies included sewing, ceramics, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards with her friends.

Marian is survived by her loving husband, Carroll G. Dudley; her children, Kevin R. Dudley, Allison A. Abrahamson (Pete); her grandchildren, Alexandra Dudley, Madelyn Dudley, Peter Abrahamson, Jr. (Yency), Lucy Abrahamson, Martha Abrahamson, Rose Abrahamson, and Natalie Abrahamson; and one great-grandchild, Peter Elijah Abrahamson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Kelly R. Arthur and Virginia M. Arthur; her sister Betty J. Arthur; and a brother Kenneth R. Arthur.

No services are planned and internment at North Bedford Baptist Church will be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to North Bedford Baptist Church and/or The Alzheimer’s Association.
