Marilu Kust

Marilu Kust, 88, of Palatine, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026. She was born on July 31, 1937 in Coleman, WI to the late Walter and Julia Krejcarek. 

Marilu is survived by 4 sons and 1 daughter: Scott (Jo Lynn) Kust of Libertyville, Steve Kust of Antioch, Melissa Cimaglio of Antioch, Thomas Kust (Kelsey Andersen) of Palatine, and Joey (Juliet) Kust of Wadsworth; 11 grandchildren: Alison (Adam) Stump, Chad (Molly) Kust, Bethany Kust, Brandon (Jessie) Kust, Amber (Preston) Davis, Anthony Cimaglio, Alex Cimaglio, Samuel Kust, Abigail Kust, Savannah Kust, and Ariella Kust; and 7 great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Aamiah, Blake, Brooklynn, Delilah, Alexis (Lexi), and Francis (Frankie). She is also survived by her brother Melvin (Joe) Krejcarek; her sister, Deanne (Ken) Brosig, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter and Julia (Durocher) Krejcarek, her husband, Ronnie Kust, her son, Jeff Kust, and her granddaughter, Courtney Cimaglio; her brothers: Walter (Dan) Krejcarek , Robert Krejcarek, and Norman (Dutch) Krejcarek; and her sisters: Fern Martens, Audrey Yatso, Lee Rouse, and Karen Frazier.

Marilu was born and raised on a little farm west of Coleman, Wisconsin. She went to Lincoln Grade School and Coleman High School. After high school she went to the convent in Silver Lake for 3 months and then to Marinette County Teachers College and Oshkosh State in Wisconsin. She taught in the Lena, Wisconsin school district. She married her husband, Ronald, on May 31, 1958. In 1960 they moved to Two Creeks Wisconsin, where they owned and operated the Two Creeks Dairy. Marilu and Ron started the little league in Manitowoc Co. After several years of making cheese two nuclear plants were built, one on each side of the factory. They bought all our farmers, leaving a store, machine shop, tavern and our cheese factory. We were forced to close and moved to Round Lake, Illinois in the 1970’s.

Marilu was a substitute teacher and worked at Condell Hospital and at the court house. She went back to school in the late 80’s to be a certified nurse’s aide and worked with the elderly and sick doing home health care. In 2012, she moved to Zurich Meadows in Lake Zurich, where she made many friends. There she played bags, enjoyed playing cards, and praying the rosary. In 2022, she moved to Palatine with her son, Tom, and his significant other, Kelsey. She enjoyed planting flowers and gardening, sitting outside on the patio, and the many visits from friends and family. Marilu’s faith was important to her and she was a member of St. Francis De Sales Church in Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Marilu didn’t seem to be happy unless she was helping someone. She always had a smile on her face, and despite life’s challenges and tough times, always had the most positive attitude. She was always there with a smile, prayer, or kind word. She will be missed by many and the memories made with her will be cherished forever.

Visitation for Marilu will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 11 AM until the funeral service at  1 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL. Interment will be private.

A celebration of Marilu's life will be held at a later date in Coleman, WI.
