Marion Joanne (Walsh) Mitchell, 89, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 8, 1936, in Chicago to Edward and Luella (Emerson) Walsh.
Marion married the love of her life, Ronald Mitchell, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and they shared a wonderful life together until his passing in 2011. Her faith remained a constant, and she was very active at St. Thomas, volunteering in many areas throughout her life. In her later years, she especially loved helping with funeral luncheons and at Little Christopher’s.
She worked for over 35 years as an administrative assistant with Process Engineering Corporation and was known for her dedication, reliability, and friendly spirit.
Marion was positive beyond measure, kind, and caring. She loved crocheting, playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her dear circle of friends, the “card ladies.” She had a wonderful social life and was happiest when surrounded by family and laughter.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Schuett, Melodi (Patrick) Hoeft, Stacey (Pete) Collins, and Rhonda (Todd) Nitto; her grandchildren Jennifer (Thom) Rooney, Kristin (Kelsey) Snell, Mitchell (Andrea) Day, Kelsiejane (Michael) Stone, Jordon (Caitlin) Hoeft, Calliemae (Andrew) Sherwood, Anneabel (Derek) Gemmel, Shayne Spyra, and Dalton and Brandon Nitto; and her great-grandchildren Connor (Lexi) Rooney, Curran Rooney, Baylee, Bobby, and Ben Snell, Miles, Marshall, Maxwell, Mitchell Stone, Graeme, Walsh, Saiorse Sherwood, Goldie and Rory Gemmel, Lilly, Kat and Karlene Bisbikis, Aria Guenther, and Harmony and Savia Spyra; her sister, Carol Schueneman; and her Walsh and Schueneman nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her daughter, Colleen Mitchell; her siblings, Edward (Barb) Walsh and Lorraine Walsh; and her brother-in-law, Richard Schueneman.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 14, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 15, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
Marion’s family and friends will remember her for her kindness, her steady faith, and her love of people. She truly lived life with joy and grace.
