Services for Marjorie Ruth Conrad, nee Kemper, 90 of Barrington, will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, where the family will be receiving friends and relatives from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Marjorie Ruth Conrad?s soul entered its heavenly home on Monday, February 1, 2010. She was born on February 5, 1919 in Chicago to Edward and Lorena (nee Fritsch) Kemper. She graduated from Barrington High School, and then worked as a secretary for Jewel Tea Company in Barrington. She married Arthur F. Conrad on June 15, 1940. Marjorie and Art had 5 children. She was a homemaker, an active member of the local Methodist Church wherever she lived, and proprietor, along with her husband, of Conrad?s Variety Store in downtown Barrington during the ?40?s and ?50?s, where the Starbuck?s is currently located. Later, she and Art were Amway Direct distributors in West Covina, CA, and Pinellas Park, FL. Throughout her life she always kept a strong faith in God, a positive outlook on life, and a sincere devotion to her family. She was able to travel the world, including Haiti in the 1950?s. Survivors include children Connie (Tim) DeVries of Fox River Grove, Sandy (Rick) Strauss of Oakton, VA, and Arthur Kirk Conrad of Silverdale, WA; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Meale, Darren (Jessey) DeVries, Stephanie Strauss, and Stacy Strauss; and five great-grandchildren, Sarah Meale, and Brandon, Colin, Alex, and Kelsey DeVries; and a brother-in-law, Richard Warfield of Vernon Hills. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arthur F. Conrad; two infant sons, John and William Conrad; great-grandson Andrew Meale; her parents, Edward G. and Lorena (nee Fritsch) Kemper; a brother, Vernon Kemper; a sister, Gladys Warfield; and a sister-in-law, Helen Kemper. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Haitian Relief Fund, American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
